An article about women being forced to abort female foetuses in India had comments from left and right wingers spectacularly missing the fucking point.
Right wingers claiming that this showed the evil of abortion and why it should be outlawed ( because that will prevent the murder of baby girls,who are wrapped in wet towels to induce pneumonia, poisoned with salt, buried alive, drowned, left to starve, given to stray dogs etc. People get very inventive when it comes to misogyny).
Left wingers claimed it was a TERF article for some reason, and that the aim was to ban abortion.
The article wasn’t even really about the abortion, more the constant, oppressive misogyny that effects women and girls there everyday. To the point that forcing an abortion on a woman is perfectly acceptable in pursuit of a son. And how helpless the mothers of girls feel, as they know damn well this is all ahead of their daughters and there is precisely fuck all they can do about it.
Even wealthier women aren’t safe. They might be allowed to have maybe 2 daughters but when it comes to child number 3 the number of abortion steadily rises as their families aren’t going to risk the possibility of a third daughter.
One desperate account was by a woman whose daughter kept getting excited about planes flying overhead as she wanted to be a pilot, and her mum knows that will never happen.
